Causes of Liver Cancer

  • Chronic viral infections, such as hepatitis B or C, can cause liver cancer.
  • Cirrhosis, often from alcohol abuse or chronic liver diseases, increases the risk.
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its severe form, NASH, can lead to liver cancer.
  • Excessive alcohol consumption contributes to liver inflammation and cancer development.
  • Prolonged exposure to aflatoxins, found in certain foods, raises the risk.
  • Genetic factors and inherited liver diseases can increase susceptibility.
  • Tobacco use has been linked to a higher incidence of liver cancer.
  • Diabetes and obesity, especially with related conditions, heighten the risk.
  • A combination of risk factors further increases the likelihood of developing liver cancer.
